Curvy Chic Closet Fall2016: Find A TRIBE With That SALE!

Curvy Chic Closet  Sale will provide unbeatable prices with a large selection of consigned Plus Size clothing, shoes and accessories.  What I didn’t expect to find was a TRIBE of amazing humans that not only Empower other women but offer local non-profits to raise awareness and monies for their projects with their sales event!

beckyI have been a long time supporter and friend of the woman behind this organization, Becky Jarvis.  Through social media I saw the hard work and dedication she places in the success of this event and admired from afar.  We became great cyber friends and knew that one day I would have to experience her event first hand.  Thankfully, that “one day” became the Fall event that took place this past week.  I was beyond excited to finally hug her in person.

Curvy Chic Closet is the largest consignment event in North America.  She brings together 100’s of consigners whose items easily fill up a 10,000 foot warehouse.  Each item is sorted by type and size and tagged accordingly.  The sides of the floor are filled with supporting vendors eager to make a connection with the patrons that come from all over Portland, Oregon and as far up as Canada.  Let me tell you, these ladies arrive with shopping on their agenda and spend hours going through is rack to see what treasure is to be found!

volunteersI arrived in Portland Wednesday night and easily took the train and LYFT to the event early Thursday morning.  I hugged Becky so hard and knew I had a new Sister.  She quickly introduced me to most of the 90+ Volunteers that make this event happen.  Then I headed outside to greet the 100+ ladies waiting in line for the much awaited pre-sale that not only gave everyone first dibs on the 1,000’s of items on the floor but also collected non-perishable food items and feminine care for the “Camions of Care” non-profit organization.  Find out more at>>

shopperspicThis event is organized with you in mind.  Every isle and dressing room is manually put together to accommodate wheelchairs, walkers and space for us to maneuver in. Some ladies (patrons from past sales) brought their own chairs as they knew that shoppers shopped until they dropped with a minimal average of 20 items that alloted extra time in the dressing room and their chairs were perfect for a more comfortable wait.  Others brought carts and wagons they filled with mountains of sale finds.

If you know me, you know I rolled up my sleeves and provided help wherever it was needed and got to see the magic from all angles as I helped 100’s of patrons.  I witnessed ladies crying from happiness in finally finding dresses that they liked and FIT on them.  Others shyly asked for my opinion or help to find a coordinating piece to a skirt they fell in love with.  Seeing the HUGE smiles and tears of happiness makes my heart full!

This lasted for 4 days and the vendors were just as sweet!  Some shared stories from their lives and what it meant to be there and sell the items they made or represent.  I became extra close to the vendors that attended my blogging workshop while there and now have a bond I can only explain it as now being family.

Curvy Chic Closet presents a FREE fashion show with beautiful Plus Size Ladies in all shapes, heights, ages and abilities.  WE (all those attending) were present with at least one model that we can see a similar body such as ours wearing beautiful FALL/WINTER designs from:

The fashion show was directed by plus size model Teka Marie who has directed the past two Curvy Chic Closet fashion shows.  It took place right in the middle of the warehouse for those shopping and attending to see.  My special guest was a beautiful little girl who is one of the event’s vendor’s Daughter.  She watched in awe as the beautiful models cat walked by us and jumped with glee when a design hit her fancy!  Her Mom told me the following day how excited and thankful she was to have had that special seat next to me.  Awwwww!!!

If you’re in the Portland, Oregon area I recommend you don’t miss their next Semi-Annual Sale happening next Spring.  Bring your shopping shoes and muscle as you will find deals and a great selection.  Most importantly you will find a COMMUNITY filled with Acceptance and with vendors, volunteers and patrons that may quickly become family.

Bring your folding chair, shopping shoes, an assistant – and don’t be afraid to ask if you need a fashion opinion from the many volunteers there to help.  It gets a little hectic with the 100’s of people attending but believe me when I say they will stop to help or get you to someone who can help.  There are refreshments and snacks available to buy if you need to replenish your energy from all that shopping.  Take your time and remember they have this event open for 4 days for you to come back and see if you missed anything.  Do attend the Free fashion show, it is the highlight of the event – as it literally gave me LIFE!

You WILL find Deals, Selection and a Staff&Volunteers that will do what they can to make it accessible for all Abilities. It isn’t only a sales event, it is a COMMUNITY filled with Acceptance and strangers AND vendors that quickly become family.

I have been a long time supporter of Becky’s projects and have been rooting her on from my home in Los Angeles. I am honored to have had the opportunity to get myself out there and experience the Magic first hand and volunteered myself to help in this event. I filled in wherever I saw an extra hand was needed and did my best to cover the event and excitement on social media.

I am now back home with my kiddos and missing my new family in Portland! My heart is filled with love and new-found strength given to me by many of the ladies, staff, vendors and most especially Becky!
I’m already making plans to attend and volunteer once again with the help of all the stars and moon to line up and make it so. <3

LOVE you ladies and know you have changed not only my life for the better but SOOOOOO many others that found the light you freely project.

SHOP knowing you are helping many amazing causes.  MINGLE and you will find the magic many of us found here.
