Staycation for Under $50! (Vacation)

I’m a single Mom and my Teens spent this Father’s Day weekend with their Dad.  What is a gal to do?  Well, a STAYCATION of course!

It’s hot here in Southern California and I had not yet worked on my tan… I know right!  I decided to take a look at AirBnB and look for an a room with a/c and a pool near me.

Have you AirBnB‘d yet?  It’s been all over the news these past couple of years and I first started using it last year.  Today I set a $50 budget for my staycation of one day (Saturday-Sunday).  I searched all over Southern California really not thinking I’d find anything within my budget but…

Now, there weren’t very many listings – it’s peak time, last minute and a tiny budget! Guess what?  I found a handful of listing… like WOW!

I decided on how far I was willing to drive then read the reviews to make sure it’s what I’m looking for.  I scored my own room with a/c in a home with a pool.  It was perfect for what I was looking for and had the pool all to myself as the family were busy doing chores inside their house.  The other AirBandB tenants I met when I first arrived were out and about through the city and didn’t see them until the next morning as I was leaving to go back home.

Lets do the Math:
$25  Room with taxes and fees

$20 Food, Water, Soda and Snacks

TOTAL $45!

This is a great savings from a hotel stay which ranges from $75 on up AND would be sharing the pool with who knows how many people.

DO NOT expect a 5 Star Resort for this price.  If you’d like to stay in luxury there are more than a few listings just for you, but you will need to have a more accommodating budget to do so.

During my stay I had a clean room, clean linens and I already live in a ruckus family environment at home.  I was able to sleep through most of family life and spend a few hours out in the pool working on my tan.. YAY!!

If you can, here’s a list of items you should pack to ensure a comfortable stay:

  • Towels
  • Pillow(s)
  • Your own linens/blanket
  • Toiletries
  • Water/Soda
  • Snacks
  • Air freshener (when sharing a restroom)
  • Sleeping Bag – in case the floor is more comfortable OR to sleep in on top of bed or sofa

  • Listings do disclose if they have wheelchair acess
  • Message the listing owner for details
