I’ve been using virgin coconut oil pulling for a couple of months now and so glad I came across this post. I had originally used just coconut oil to “apply” to my skin directly but it was too rough on it’s own and was brain storming on what to use it with that won’t irritate my sensitive skin.

(The following is now my new cleansing regimen for my face and neck that I will be doing every morning and before bed time)
I just read this and pulled a small empty beauty bottle and mixed the following:
1/4 natural almond oil and 3/4 virgin coconut oil.
I shook it but coconut oil is difficult to blend and decided to warm some water in a tea pot then soaked my bottle in the water for a few minutes shaking it every time until fully dissolved (approx. 4 minutes.)
My solution is completely liquefied and squeezed out a few drops at a time and applied it to my dry face. I did soft circular motion massage throughout my face. I also did the same for my lips as I have been experiencing dry chapped lips with these Santa Ana winds hitting us these couple of these.
After thoroughly massaged it in to my skin. It flaked in to an almost powdery substance – sure sign that the coconut oil tells me it was completely absorbed *I applied a fresh shiny layer over my problem areas: Nose, Under Eyes and Crows feet…. Left it on for 10 minutes.
Next is the warm wash cloth removal….
I took a clean white washcloth and soaked it in hot water. I let it cool to the touch and squeezed the excess water out. I then placed it on my face for a minute. I repeated this process a couple of more times then used the edges to wipe off any left over makeup and solution.
My skin was left clean and soft with no makeup or dryness. Even as I sit writing this blog post, over an hour later, my skin remains clean and soft.
To show what results you will experience I did this process on my hand:
Earlier today I had my Son’s BDay party at a skating rink and the hand stamp they used wasn’t washing off. I applied this solution to my hand and most of the ink came off with the same circular motions I did on my face. I applied another leave in light layer of the solution and it practically disappeared. It came right off by the time I used the hot towel.
Our lips are always thrown to the side even after we apply lipstick and tints almost on the daily. We forget to nourish the delicate lip skin and am happy to find my lips are now soft and no longer hurt. I will give an update after a week’s use on my skin’s progress.
So here’s the Science techie side of this “Oil Pulling For Your Skin.” I found a GREAT article in WellnessMama.com (One of my FAVORITE sites BTW!) that explains that it takes “good” oil to take the “bad oil” out… yes, I completely took it down to an elementary level, but as I said WellnessMama explains it perfectly and want you to read the article yourself. The article is titled:
““Oil Cleansing For Naturally Perfect Skin” (I’ve in-bedded the link to the tittle and it will take you straight to it)
Warning: Like any cleansing technique some will experience a few days to a week of break outs. These are normal signs of de-toxing taking place and you need to decide if you will ride it out until you see the results. I recommend starting this on a Thursday in case there is a reaction you’ll have a couple of days off before you need to show yourself at work. Stay away from using any harsh products during this process as your skin is trying to renew itself back to a healthier natural state.
All I can say is, I LOVE coconut oil AND almond oil. They are amazing on my skin issues and really want the world to experience these natural items that one can whip up in minutes and at minimal cost.
I buy my Virgin Coconut Oil from the following link:
Almond Oil: I had from “Jafra” but just ordered a large batch on Ebay. I will post the link once I receive it and try it out. You can find your favorite brand locally as well.
