There I was, working on a budget for our next family staycation and while reading on tips to save money quickly I came across the Unclaimed Property Search (California) on the State Controller website. I remember visiting this site a decade ago and completely forgot about it as the “claim process” was a long one involving copies and forms to snail mail etc. No More snail mail now!
The search process is as simple as can be! I not only completed a successful search for myself but also for my Momz. You plug in a few pieces of personal information and if there’s a match a list of items come up. I found payroll money owed to me from a job in the early 2000’s that is no longer there as well as Paypal money that never got to me years ago, along with a few miscellaneous items from insurance and utility companies.
It all added up to $168.68!
I filled out the claim information on line which also was short and sweet and received an emailed confirmation of my claim. It took about 2-3 weeks before 3 checks showed up in the mail. It was that EASY!
Want to find out if you have some unclaimed property out there? It won’t take you more than 2 minutes to search!

Not in California? Google search: “Unclaimed Property (Enter Your State)”
There you have it. I found more than a day’s pay for the 5-10 minutes it took me to log on, search and fill out my information. That’s pretty remarkable!
What are you waiting for?! Let me know if this TIP found you some money!
