Ahoy! Vintage Sailor Costume & Swimsuit! (Outfit Of The Day)

Sailor’s Delights by Elegant Moments

I first spotted this cuteness of a suit on Instagram being worn as a swimsuit.  She looked so lovely and was surprised to be told it was a costume!  I had to grab one for myself and this is what happened!
I ordered the 3X/4X as I have wide hips and need the extra material.  As I had suspected it was a bit on the short side and added my short petticoat – even though it wasn’t in a matching color or pattern – my red petticoat was too fluffy and long to work with the length.  The bust was much more giving and had a hard time filling it.
I’m wearing the costume without any alterations in this post.  This will help to show how it will look straight out of the packaging and what to plan for if you are close to my measurements.  I plan on having a little bit of alterations on the bust for it to fit snug as designed.
The costume is still very cute!  The hat completes this design and decided to do the one victory roll.  I was aiming for a simple look and can add large side victory rolls and curled hair for a more dressier style.
Measurements:  48 –  44  –  55                   Height:   5’0
If your hip size is smaller than mine I’d recommend the 1X/2X size instead as it is very loose on the bodice.  If you’re not petite as I am, you can wear a longer petticoat in white, red or navy for added coverage.  Another trick is wearing a short skirt you normally wear underneath for the added length.
I found this costume at:  www.yandy.com

I'm purchasing this costume because I have friends who are wanting to do a theme when we go out. I'm a tall, busty and plus sized woman. How does it fit around the middle if you have a belly? I am sure I may need to utliize spanx and I am sure it'll be short on me due to my height, but I've got a red petticoat thanks to Hips and Curves website. Did it feel snug? Does the fabric give? My order isn't in until Friday and I'm super nervous!

How great! The material has "some" stretch. I have a double belly and it fit fine, but definitely a bit short. Your petticoat will take care of that.
I believe it was very giving in sizing and fits more like a size 22/24 (US). I'm normally a 18/20 (US) Hope this helps and do let me know how it worked out for you 🙂

You were right. It does fit like a 22/24, which I am certainly not complaining about! Still rather short in the back due to my having a shelf but a red rumba panty will tie it in nicely. Being extremely top heavy as much as bottom heavy, I was amazed it worked for my top half. I'm satisfied and I did the whole outfit on and was very happy with the results! Thank you for your help!
