Being a budget conscience Mama helps hone in on my creativity and easy tips. There are some cute budget friendly swim wear pieces out there that are perfect for the wallet but just need a little extra magic to make it fit better.
TIP 1: Strapless Bra
I have a heavy top and most budget swimwear rarely provides it. I have old bras I dedicate to wear under swimwear – as pools have chlorine that will wear out the fibers, so don’t use your nice bras for this! If it shows through your swim piece do your best to match the colors or pop a color from a patterned design. You can also wrap a matching material around the closure if it’s thicker than the swim wear piece. I stock up on bras that have a “see through” plastic strap when I do come by them. These will be PERFECT for the back revealing designs.
TIP 2: Convertible Straps
For added lift and/or support if you are top heavy or for swim wear that has flimsy ties – I keep extra straps from my convertible bras to replace them with. They come in black, nude, red or in clear. Make sure they are the wider straps to keep them from digging in to your skin, most especially when the material becomes heavier when wet. You can find these in the lingerie section of most department stores or at my favorite brand at Lane Bryant.
TIP 3: Swim Skirt
If you are wider hipped than most or have a thicker mid section that raises the thigh cut to expose too much skin that makes you feel uncomfortable – slip on a swim skirt in the basic black that you can use to any top or change it up by popping a color and/or mix prints. AND who said it has to be a short skirt? My favorite piece is a polka-dot mesh LONG skirt that is unexpected. Make sure you don’t wear these in chlorine water as that may ruin these non-swim wear material pieces. I usually wear mine to the beach and lakes and always take it off when I plan to swim in the water.
With these tips you can add the support you need to just about any swim piece and convert it in to a design that is uniquely yours! Don’t be afraid to experiment and see what works for you.
